The February staff spotlight shines on Jim Curtis, G.F. Puhl's Vice President of Engineering and Manufacturing, who talks about the start of his career at G.F. Puhl, what he finds most rewarding about the business, and what he does when he's not designing systems for Puhl customers.

How did you get into the trim collection business?

Quite by accident. In May of 1986 the day after my senior year college final exams, I responded to a recruiter’s ad in the Engineering section of the Tennessean Newspaper. I was hired that day.

What do you like most about being in this business?

The constant challenge of working for a company that is on the cutting edge of new technology development for “one off” dilute phase air conveying systems.

What kinds of client projects are your favorites?

I like the associated challenges that go along with all of them but, If I had to pick a favorite it would be a the one that pushes the boundaries of what has been done before by either it’s technical requirements, scope, or scale.

When you’re not working at GF Puhl, what do you do for fun and relaxation?

I am an avid outdoorsman who enjoys boating with my wife, watersports like surfing and scuba diving as well as golf, riding my touring motorcycle, and restoring and building off road vehicles.
