This month, the staff spotlight shines on Kenneth Crane, G.F. Puhl's Plant Manager. Kenneth talks about the start of his career, what he likes most about his work, and what he does when he's not overseeing operations in the G.F. Puhl manufacturing facility.

How did you get into the trim collection business?

After being in Atlanta for a while working in fabrication shop, I wanted to come back to Tennessee. So I found a job working for a steel supplier in Nashville and then decided to get back into fabrication. I started at G.F. Puhl in 1997 working in shipping and receiving. One day I asked the shop foreman if I could bring in my tools and start fabricating. He said yes and I ended up doing fabrication work and other jobs in the shop for more than five years before being promoted to plant manager.

What do you like most about being in this business?

I really enjoy the challenge. Every day is like a puzzle. I like figuring out how to make all the pieces fit together so the projects are done right and done on time.

When you’re not working at GF Puhl, what do you do for fun and relaxation?

I love being outdoors with my wife, Leslie, and my kids, Austin and Makayla. My wife and I enjoy competing in 5k mud runs with obstacle courses. Some of those courses involve crawling under barbed wire and electrical fences. I like competition shooting and watching high school baseball games. We all like boating on the lake and watching major league baseball games.
